Safety is No Accident

On the way to work today--listening to the weather forecast and observing other drivers--I thought about driving safely on icy, snow-covered roads. Following are a few tips from the National Safety Council and The Weather Channel:

1. Decrease your speed and allow three times more space than usual between you and the car in front of you.
2. Brake gently. If your wheels lock up ease off the brakes.
3. Turn on your lights to increase your visibility to other drivers.
4. Keep your headlights and windshield clean.
5. Don't use cruise control or overdrive on icy roads.
6. Don't pass snowplows and salting/sanding trucks. They have limited visibility and the roads in front of them will be worse.
7. Don't be over confident just because you are in a four-wheel or front-wheel drive vehicle. All vehicles can encounter trouble on winter roads.
8. Be especially careful on bridges, overpasses, and infrequently traveled roads which will freeze first.

Remember, "Safety is No Accident" and if you have not covered your snow removal needs, give us a call.
